Why We Give Our Legal Tools Away for Free

2026-01-23 Reading time 5 min

When a client walks in with an unpaid invoice for twenty thousand crowns, we have two options. Tell them our hourly rate is higher than their entire claim, and send them home. Or help them.

For a long time, we chose the first option — not because we didn't want to help, but because the economics of running a law firm simply don't work for disputes where legal fees exceed the value of the claim. We were honest about it: we said "it's not worth it," shook hands, and parted ways. The client left frustrated. We earned nothing. The problem stayed unsolved.

So we decided to change that.

What we built

Our website now includes a suite of free legal tools covering the most common situations people come to us with:

⚖ Attorney Tariff Calculator — calculate how much a Czech court would award as cost reimbursement. Three modes: simple, advanced, and expert with document export for court filings.

📐 Late Payment Interest Calculator — enter the amount owed and the due date; the calculator computes statutory interest by half-year periods.

🏛 Court Fee Calculator — how much you'll pay for filing a lawsuit, an appeal, or an electronic payment order.

🔍 Insolvency Check — verify whether your debtor or business partner is in insolvency proceedings.

🚗 Attorney Travel Expenses — calculate travel reimbursement using current Ministry rates, with export for billing.

📨 Demand Letter Generator — a step-by-step wizard that generates a formally correct pre-litigation demand letter.

📋 Payment Order Draft Generator — the same concept for a lawsuit on monetary claims.

💻 Electronic Payment Order Guide — a step-by-step walkthrough of how to file an EPR through the Czech justice portal.

Why for free

Because these things aren't worth a consultation.

A demand letter is a standardised document. A claim for an unpaid invoice has an established structure. Calculating the tariff is arithmetic. None of these require five years of legal education and fifteen years of practice — they require knowledge of the correct form and current figures.

That's exactly what the tools provide. They don't advise. They don't assess whether you have a valid claim. They don't replace a lawyer. They just help with routine tasks so you don't have to pay for something you can handle yourself.

We can then focus on what isn't routine. Corporate governance mandates. Complex transactions. Disputes where strategy and experience matter, not the formatting of a submission.

What's in it for us

I'll be honest. We're not doing this out of pure philanthropy.

The person whose demand letter we helped generate for a twenty-thousand-crown debt will remember us when they need a lawyer for a two-million-crown matter. And they'll come to us, because they know we helped them even when there was nothing in it for us.

The attorney who uses our tariff calculator daily knows who we are. When they need a cooperating firm in Brno, they'll call.

The in-house counsel who checks a billing statement using our tool will come back when they're looking for external counsel for a governance mandate.

This isn't charity. It's an investment in a relationship that starts by giving something with no strings attached. In the legal profession, that's unusual. We think it shouldn't be.

What the tools don't do

They don't provide legal advice. They don't assess the merits of your claim. They don't guarantee success. They don't replace an individual assessment by a lawyer.

If your dispute involves contract interpretation, contested facts, or an opponent with legal representation while you have none — you need a lawyer, not a generator.

The tools are for simple matters. For everything else, we're here. Specifically on what you pay your own lawyer for a dispute and what the court awards back, see Attorney's fees in court — and on whether to launch the dispute at all, Not every battle is worth fighting. And for the broader question of when the work you are doing as a lawyer is actually not lawyer's work and when to send the client somewhere else, see The lawyer as illusionist.

How it works technically

Everything runs directly in your browser. We don't send any data to a server. No registration. No cookies beyond what's necessary. Close the page, and everything is gone.

Exported documents are generated as HTML, which you save as PDF through your browser's print dialog. No third parties, no accounts, no charges.

If our tools help you, we'll be glad. If you encounter a situation where they're not enough — get in touch. That's what we're here for.
