Process
We listen and get to grips with the context and your priorities. In family law, what matters is not only what you want but also what is realistic and in the children's best interests.
We always prefer agreement over litigation. We prepare a proposal that is fair and likely to gain court approval.
If agreement isn't possible, we advocate firmly. But even in court, we look for room for a reasonable compromise.
From our practice
Divorce
A couple were divorcing after 18 years. Both wanted the family home: for the children, for the memories, on principle. A dispute over the property would have dragged on for years and the children would have suffered. We proposed selling to a third party and splitting the proceeds, with compensation for one spouse's investments. The divorce was completed in 4 months.
Child custody
The father wanted shared care; the mother wanted sole custody. The child went to school near the mother's home and the father lived 40 km away. We concluded that stable schooling was what mattered most for the child and proposed extended contact on an adjusted schedule. The court accepted the proposal.
