## What our authors have in common

**Precision.** Every article is signed by the lawyer who handles that kind of matter and gives the date as of which it describes the law. We back each statement with a statutory provision or a court decision and its case number. With a court decision we also say what does not follow from it, so that readers do not rely on something the court never said.

**Culture.** The answer comes first, the reasons after it. We also write what readers may not want to hear: that an appeal against pre-trial detention often fails, that back child support tends to come out lower than the parent asked for, or that a dispute may not pay off even for the side that is right. We talk to clients the same way.

**Way of working.** More than one of us works on every matter, and every key piece of work is reviewed by a second lawyer. Where a matter reaches into a colleague’s field, we bring them in. A family dispute often has a business side, and a business dispute a human one.

## Authors

### [Mgr. Jan Vytřísal](https://www.iustoria.cz/en/team/jan-vytrisal/)

Attorney, founder and owner · 26 articles

He handles court disputes and negotiations with the other side, mainly in commercial matters. Most of his writing is about negotiation and the psychology of disputes: how judges decide, what clients want but do not say, and what to do about an opponent who has no mandate or behaves irrationally. A second large group covers civil procedure: limitation, missed deadlines, witnesses, interim measures and appeals. He also writes about business partners parting ways, sale-and-buyback schemes for real estate, and how the firm works: why it publishes its fees and why it gives its legal tools away for free.

> “In a dispute you are not negotiating about who is right, but about the price of uncertainty.”

### [Mgr. Bára Bartoňková](https://www.iustoria.cz/en/team/bara-bartonkova/)

Attorney · 19 articles

Family law is her daily work and what she writes about most. In disputes over children she focuses on what catches parents off guard: interim decisions, a child who does not want to go to the other parent, a parent who will not hand the child over, or a move after which shared care stops working. On child support she writes mainly about parents who claim to have nothing or who run their business through their own company. Beyond family law she handles escrow of the purchase price in property sales and represents clients in disputes between co-owners and in criminal cases, where she also advises families whose relative is in pre-trial detention.

> “In custody proceedings, the central figure is the child. Almost everything else follows from that.”
